Miami Proposes Horse Racing At Airport Parking

Miami’s city commissioners want to install slot machines at Miami International Airport to generate revenue, but under a Florida statute they must also install horse racing. Political Theater Is No Laughing Matter In Belarus

As the eastern European nation of Belarus heads towards a presidential election Sunday, one of the few signs of opposition is on stage. The Belarus Free Theatre has been using its plays to highlight the current president’s human rights record and demand democratic freedoms. The acting troupe is unregistered and illegal, and their performances have come at a personal cost.

Deep-Water Sub Dives Into The Fountain Of Youth

A 46-year-old research submarine named Alvin will be taken out of service for the next year and a half for modernization after more than 4,600 dives. Among its feats, Alvin found a hydrogen bomb, explored the Titanic and, most recently, visited the seafloor of the Gulf of Mexico.

U.N. Stays In Ivory Coast As Power Struggle Continues

Making The U.S. Afghan Strategy Stick

S. Korean Exercises Prompt Emergency U.N. Meeting

Back in the 1990s, there were fewer than a dozen short-term tax provisions that had to be re-approved by Congress every year or so. By this year, that number had topped 140. And that has to change, say two Washington veterans — Mortimer Caplin, who ran the IRS under John F. Kennedy, and David Stockman, budget director for Ronald Reagan.
